- History: Bring a castle or ancient ruin to life with true stories of the people who lived there.
- Geography: Plan walking routes through a city and explain how its rivers and hills shaped its growth.
- Languages: Lead tours for visitors from abroad in their own language and answer their questions.
- Communication: Keep a big group interested, together and on time from the first stop to the last.

Try it yourself: Guide a tour of your mini museum
- Choose objects that tell a story about you or your home, like an old toy, a photo or a souvenir.
- Arrange them in the order you want your visitor to see them, and write a short label for each one.
- Plan what you will say at each stop: one fact, one story and one question for your visitor.
- Give the tour to at least one person, then ask what they enjoyed most and what was confusing.
Tour guides plan a route and a story for every stop, then adjust it for each group by watching faces and taking questions.
